Characteristics of screen printing ink types and other techniques

Ada beberapa karakter jenis tinta sablon dan teknik dalam prosesnya, masing-masing dari tinta yang akan kita bahas memiliki kelabihan dan kekurangannya sendiri. Namun tetap dapat membantu untuk menciptakan hasil gambar yang ingin kita dapat.

There are several characteristics of screen printing ink types and techniques in the process, each of the inks that we will discuss has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, it can still help to create the image results we want to get.

Jenis Super White dan Pigmen warna

Tinta Rubber
Tinta ini bisa dipakai untuk kaos berwarna terang dan gelap karena jenis tinta ini bersifat menumpang dan menutupi rajutan kain(diatas kaos). Namun untuk sablon diatas kain yang bersifat melar dibutuhkan jenis tinta rubber dengan racikan khusus agar cat dapat mengikuti kelenturan kain dan berdaya tahan lama. Tinta rubber umumnya digunakan untuk underbase, underbase sendiri berarti sebagai penutup kain sebelum penyablonan warna-warna diatasnya, hal tersebut byasa diaplikasikan pada kain yang bersifar warna gelap.
Tinta rubber dibagi dalam dua jenis, pertama tinta rubber white yang byasa dipakai untuk underbase dan yang kedua rubber dengan jenis color(berwarna)(clear) yang digunakan untuk mencampur warna-warna tua. Untuk mendapatkan warna putih yang bersih dan cemerlang campurkan tinta rubber white dengan sedikit pigmen(pewarna) cocok untuk dibahan warna terang seperti putih, kuning dan warna-warna muda.

Rubber Ink 

This ink can be used on both light and dark colored t-shirts because it overlays and covers the fabric weave (on the t-shirt). However, for screen printing on stretchy fabrics, a special rubber ink blend is required to adhere to the fabric's flexibility and provide long-lasting durability. Rubber ink is generally used for under-base printing, which serves as a cover for the fabric before applying the colors above it. This is typically applied to dark fabrics. Rubber ink is divided into two types: white rubber ink, which is typically used for under-base printing, and clear rubber ink, which is used to blend dark colors. To achieve a clean, bright white, mix rubber white ink with a small amount of pigment (dye). This ink is suitable for light-colored materials such as white, yellow, and light colors.

Tinta Transparant
Umumnya disebut dengan coating, karena dapat digunakan sebagai pelapis hasil sablon sehingga hasil sablon lebih terlihat cemerlang dan mengkilap. Tinta ini memiliki bentuk seperti tinta Extender yang transparan namun memiliki kandungan yang lebih kuat dan keras. Tinta ini baik sekali untuk teknik penyablonan separasi empat warna cmyk dengan cara memberikan rubber white pada permukaan bahan sebelun di sablon separasi.

Transparent Ink 

Commonly called coating, it can be used as a coating on screen printing, making the results appear brighter and glossier. This ink is similar to transparent extender ink, but has a stronger and harder composition. This ink is excellent for the four-color CMYK separation screen printing technique, which involves applying rubber white to the surface of the material before the separation screen is applied.

Tinta Extender(Binder styrene)
Tnta ini bersifat transparan dan hanya cocok untuk penggunaan diatas bahan putih dan terang. Sifat dari tinta ini menyatu dan menyerap dengan bahan.

Extender Ink (Styrene Binder) This ink is transparent and only suitable for use on white and light-colored materials. This ink blends and absorbs into the material. Tinta Super White
Tinta ini hampir sama jenisnya dengan rubber yang terdiri dari jenis wawrna putih dan color(berwarna), Namun tinta ini sifatnya lebih mendekati tinta extender sedikit menyerap dan dapat diaplikasikan di bahan berwarna terang ataupun gelap.

Super White Ink 

This ink is similar to rubber, available in white and colored versions. However, this ink is more similar to extender ink, being slightly absorbent and suitable for application on both light and dark colored materials.

Tinta Puff/Timbul
Tinta ini terdapat unsur seperti jenis underbase dan plastisol yang memerlukan pemanasan yang cukup sehingga tinta ini dapat mengembang dan menghasilkan efek timbul.

Puff/Embossed Ink This ink contains elements such as underbase and plastisol which require sufficient heating so that the ink can expand and produce an embossed effect.

2. JENIS TINTA SOLVENT/PLASTISOL/SEMI PLASTISOL (basis minyak)

Jenis Plastisol

Tinta plastisol basis minyak ini berbahan dasar PVC dengan kemampuan istimewa untuk mencetak raster super kecil byasanya untuk gambar-gambar seperti foto yang memiliki pixel titik raster yang super kecil dengan hasil yang prima, namun harga tinta jenis ini cukup mahal dan memerlukan peralatan khusuh untuk dapat mengeringkannya. Untuk dapat kering  dengan baik memerlukan suhu mencapai 160' C. Tinta ini sedikit menghasilkan limbah, jadi sangat irit. Tinta jenis ini memiliki daya erat yang tinggi. Dan sering digunakan untuk menciptakan efek-efek menakjupkan seperti HightDensity. Pada t-shit sering dicantimkan tulisan label "Do not iron on design" sebab tinta ini akan meleleh bila terkena panas secara langsung dari setrika.

This oil-based plastisol ink is made from PVC with a special ability to print super small rasters, usually for images such as photos that have super small raster dot pixels with excellent results, but the price of this type of ink is quite expensive and requires special equipment to be able to dry it. To be able to dry properly requires a temperature of up to 160 'C. This ink produces little waste, so it is very economical. This type of ink has high adhesion power. And is often used to create amazing effects such as HightDensity. On t-shirts, the label "Do not iron on design" is often included because this ink will melt if exposed to direct heat from the iron.

Berikut jenis-jenis cat plastisol

Tinta All Purpose
Tinta ini berbentuk dan memiliki sifat transparan seperti extender/binder namun berbasis minyak. Dan tinta ini hanya digunakan pada kain yang bersifat warna putih atau terang.

All-Purpose Ink 

This ink is transparent and has properties similar to an extender/binder, but is oil-based. It is only used on white or light-colored fabrics.

Tinta Hight Opacity
Tinta ini mempunyai sifat seperti rubber hanya saja tinta ini memiliki daya tutup yang lebih baik pada permukaan kain. Tinta ini dapat digunakan untuk teknik Hight Density. Proses Hight Density juga dapat menghasilkan gambar yang tebal.

High Opacity Ink 

This ink has rubber-like properties, but with better coverage on fabric surfaces. This ink can be used for high-density printing techniques. The high-density process can also produce bold images.

Tinta Athletic Plastisol
Tinta ini bersifat lentur dan elastis sangat cocok untuk penyablonan diatas kain Polymesh, Spandex ataupun kain yang bermotif berlubang-lubang.

Athletic Plastisol Ink This ink is flexible and elastic, making it perfect for screen printing on polymesh, spandex, or perforated fabrics. 

Cork Base
Tinta ini dapat digunakan untuk teknik Hight Density yang akan menghasilkan efek seperti busa atau gabus. Tinta ini memiliki kelenturan dan fleksibelitas yang tinggi sehingga sangat cocok untuk penyablonan diatas kain yang lentur seperti Spandex dan Rib. Tinta ini diperbolehkan untuk dry cleas, bleach ataupun disetrika.

Cork Base 

This ink can be used for high-density printing techniques, creating a foam-like or cork-like effect. Its high flexibility and flexibility make it ideal for screen printing on flexible fabrics like spandex and rib. It can be dry cleaned, bleached, or ironed.

Shimmer Gold & Base
Tinta ini diformulasikan untuk menghasilkan warna seperti metalic. Tinta ini berbentuk pasta yang siap pakai dan sangat cocok diginakan untuk HeatTransfer cold peel ataupun hot peel. Sangat baik digunakan pada bahan kain yang keriting, cotton, polyester dan rayon namun tidak disarankan dipakai untuk jenis kain nylon ataupun lycra.

Shimmer Gold & Base 

This ink is formulated to produce metallic-like colors. It comes in a ready-to-use paste and is suitable for cold-peel or hot-peel heat transfer printing. It works well on curly fabrics, cotton, polyester, and rayon, but is not recommended for nylon or Lycra.

Hight Density Clear
Tinta ini bersifat transparan dan menghasilkan efek sablon yang mengkilap yang terkesan basah.

High Density Clear 

This ink is transparent and produces a glossy, wet-looking screen printing effect. 

Wilflex Luna Clear
Tinta ini bersifat transparan yang tidak terlihat dengan lampu byasa, namun akan muncul bila terkena sinar matahari (ultraviolet)

Wilflex Luna Clear 

This ink is transparent and invisible under normal lighting, but will appear when exposed to sunlight (ultraviolet). 

Naturl Suade
Tinta ini menghasilkan efek seperti kulit yang lembut.

Natural Suede 

This ink produces a soft, leather-like effect.

3. OTHER TYPES OF INK AND TECHNIQUES 

Sparkle Blink
Bubuk yang diformulasikan untuk menimbulkan kesan kelap-kelip dan memiliki tampilan yang glosy. Untuk menggunakan bubuk ini, sebelumnya harus mencetak cat plastisol sebagai dasar sekaligus sebagai perekat untuk bubuk ini.

Sparkle Blink 

A powder formulated to create a shimmering effect and a glossy appearance. To use this powder, you must first print with plastisol paint, which acts as a base and adhesive for the powder.

Foil Transfer
Almunium foil dalam bentuk seperti kertas. Selain warna silfer dan gold foil juga tersedia dalam bentuk bermacam warna dengan motif yang berbeda. Dan untuk menempelkan foil ini dibutuhkan lem khusus yang byasa dijual ketika membelinya.

Foil Transfer 

Aluminum foil in paper-like form. In addition to silver and gold, foil is also available in various colors with different motifs. Attaching this foil requires a special glue, which is usually sold when purchasing. 

Pigmen
Ini dipakai untuk kaos yang bersifat warna terang. Tinta ini menyerap dan menyatu pada bahan kain.

Pigment 

This is used for light-colored t-shirts. This ink absorbs and bonds with the fabric.

Flock
Ini adalah teknik sablon yang menghasilkan efek cetakan seperti beludru. Ada dua jenis Flock yaitu bubuk dan lembaran. Dan untuk lembaran digunakan lem khusus.

Flock 

This is a screen printing technique that produces a velvet-like print effect. There are two types of flock: powder and sheet. For sheet, a special glue is used.

Sugar Printing
Adalah teknik sablon yang menghasilkan bentuk bubuk seperti gula pasir.

Sugar Printing 

Is a screen printing technique that produces a powder-like substance resembling granulated sugar.

Glow in The Dark
Adalah teknik yang menghasilkan seperti serbuk bubuk yang menyerap dan memantulkan sinarnya kembali didalam ruang gelap. Teknik ini bisa dalam bentuk seperti rubber, pigmen ataupun plastisol.

Glow in the Dark 

Is a technique that produces a powder-like substance that absorbs and reflects light back into the dark. This technique can be in the form of rubber, pigment, or plastisol. 

Reflective Powder
Serbuk yang dapat memantulakan sinar jika tekena lampu ataupun sinar matahari.

Reflective Powder 

A powder that can reflect light when exposed to light or sunlight. 

Discharge Agent
Ini adalah bahan kimia yang digunakan untuk mencabut warna dasar kain, sehingga warna dasar kain menjadi putih/grey(abu-abu). Untuk mendapatkan hasil yang maksimal dibutuhkan pemilihan warna pewarna kain dengan yang dischargeable. Bahan kimia ini memiliki kemampuan menipiskan dan menghilangkan warna dasar dan menggantinya dengan warna baru. Bisa lihat selengkapnya disini.

Discharge Agent 

This is a chemical used to remove the base color of the fabric, leaving it white/grey. To achieve optimal results, choose a dischargeable fabric dye. This chemical has the ability to thin and remove the base color, replacing it with a new color. You can learn more here.

Distressed atau Vintage
Adalah teknik inovasi grafik dengan membuat tekstur sehingga gambar terlihat pecah-pecah dan terlihat usang(kuno).

Distressed or Vintage 

This is an innovative graphic technique that creates a texture so that the image appears cracked and worn (antique). 

Shatter Base
Tinta jenis ini menciptakan gambar yang terkesan pecah (crack). Tinta ini diciptakan agar mudah pecah pada saat pengeringan dan untuk pengeringannya dibutuhkan Flash Curing.

Shatter Base 

This type of ink creates an image that appears cracked. This ink is designed to crack easily upon drying and requires flash curing. 

Rock Base
Ini adalah teknik Hight Density yang menggunakan tinta rock base untuk menciptakan gambar dengan permukaan kasar seperti batu.

Rock Base 

This is a high-density technique that uses rock-based ink to create an image with a rough, stone-like surface.

Sublimation Transfer
Yaitu gambar yang dicetak diatas kertas transfer kemudian ditransfer ke kaos menggunakan hotpress. Sublimation trnasfer umumnya terbagi beberapa jenis yaitu Hot peel dan Cold peel
Hot Peel
Gambar diprint diatas kertas transfer lalu diaplikasikan di atas kain
Cold Peel
Jenis ini jika diaplikasikan di atas kain akan menghasilkan tekstur seperti tinta rubber dan dapat diaplikasikan dibahan terang ataupun gelap. Sebab dalam pembuatannya proses ini menggunakan tinta plastisol.

Sublimation Transfer This is an image printed on transfer paper and then transferred to a t-shirt using a heat press. Sublimation transfers are generally divided into two types: Hot Peel and Cold Peel. 

Hot Peel 

The image is printed on transfer paper and then applied to the fabric. 

Cold Peel 

This type, when applied to fabric, produces a rubber-like texture and can be applied to both light and dark materials. This is because the process uses plastisol ink. 

Rhinestones Heat Press
Aplikasi yang digunakan untuk dekorasi dalam garmen, mempunyai beragam nama sesuai dengan bahan yang digunakan, antara lain Nailheats, Rhinestones dan Searovski Crystal. Cara mengaplikasikannya hanya dengan memanaskan menggunakan mesin pemanas hot press dengan suhu sekitar 160'C selama 10 detik.

Rhinestones Heat Press 

This application, used for decoration in garments, has various names depending on the material used, including Nailheats, Rhinestones, and Searovski Crystals. The application is simply done by heating with a hot press at a temperature of around 160°C for 10 seconds. 

Hight Frequency Welding
Yaitu proses menggunakan mesin hight frequency seperti pengaplikasian plastik PVC diatas kain.

High Frequency Welding 

This process uses a high-frequency machine, similar to applying PVC plastic to fabric. 

Emboss Print
Yaitu pengaplikasian menggunakan mesin press bertekanan tinggi untuk menciptakan hasil emboss diatas bahan kain.

Emboss Printing 

This application uses a high-pressure press to create an embossed effect on fabric.
